Black History Month, also known as African American History Month, was created in 1926 in the United States.
During that time period, historian Carter G. Woodson and the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History announced the second week of February to be “Negro History Week.”
Woodson was quoted in 1926 on this new event in history when he said, “If a race has no history, it has no worthwhile tradition, it becomes a negligible factor in the thought of the world, and it stands in danger of being exterminated.”
All upcoming events are free and open to the public. For more information or accommodation requests, please call 314-984-7593 or email sreinhadrt11@stlcc.edu.
