Several students were gathered upstairs in STLCC-Meramec’s student center on April 18, to be a hopeful candidate for MTV’s show “Made.” Casting producer for Made, Nate Johnson, interviewed students who wanted to fulfill their dreams for their first season with college students.

“Made” has been on the air for nine years and the show is centered on High School students. According to Johnson this season they wanted to focus on college students.

“There’s a lot more material, [college students] have issues that a lot of people around the world is dealing with,” Johnson said. “Plus in this economy college students are having a horrible time. So we wanted to give students an opportunity to become that professional kick boxer or whatever their dream may be.”

Meramec had Johnson’s attention due to the student involvement and activities. He saw this involvement through Twitter and Facebook.

“That’s important because we want to show college life in this transition and show how fun college is,” Johnson said. “And help people go to college, because I think college is important.”

Steve Brady, manager of Campus Life, said MTV has worked with Meramec before with “Rock the Vote.”

“[MTV] likes Meramec, it’s an urban campus where we have 10,000 students and about 8,000 are under 25 and they know that we have an active campus,” Brady said.

Johnson has also visited STLCC-Florissant Valley and University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL), and he plans to go to Springfield and Kansas City Missouri. The airing of this season will be on January.

“I’m just looking for someone that’s honest, energetic and has a good goal,” Johnson said. “The more honest they are about that goal, the better.”
