For students new and old, they must apply for school and register for classes. Colleges like Fontbonne, Webster and WashU require a minimum ACT or SAT score, a high grade point average, a specific number of courses taken, and of course, tens of thousands of dollars. STLCC requires none of the above for someone to belong. It accepts people of all academic backgrounds with its open admissions policy, in which “admission to the college is not based on minimum academic qualifications,” according to STLCC’s web site, http://stlcc.edu.

“Signing up early is the key,” said Kim Fitzgerald, coordinator of enrollment management. “Early registration helps everybody. It helps us plan additional sections and re-allocate some of the resources we have.”
Before registering for classes or even applying to Meramec, students may want to take a tour of the school to see if they are interested in attending. Tours must be scheduled via admissions. They are generally given by student ambassadors, current Meramec students working with admissions to perform admissions-related services.
There are eight steps, which makes it easy to mix these steps up or skip steps without knowing. Prospective, incoming and current students can visit admissions and registration in Clark Hall any time if they have questions about the process or any of its steps.
#1: Complete an application. Non-traditional students, those who haven’t completed a traditional high school program, must first meet with an adviser before applying to Meramec.
#2: See that official transcripts from your high school or previous college or institution are mailed to the STLCC campus to which you are applying.
#3: Complete the Accuplacer test. The Accuplacer test is required for most new students. Depending on the scores, students may need to take specific pre-college-level courses before signing up for college-level classes. There are exceptions to taking the test, which come from minimum ACT or SAT scores or from receiving a “C” or better on college-level courses.
#4: Register for classes. Seasonal course catalogues are available in all admission centers on each campus. An online course catalogue is available through Banner Self-Service.
#5: Apply for financial aid (if applicable). Apply as early as possible to be considered for all forms of financial aid.
#6: Pay for classes. At Meramec, this is done via the cashiers in Clark Hall or online.
#7: Get an ID Card, parking permit, and activate student e-mail, at the student life office (SC 221).
#8: Buy books and supplies for class at the bookstore, but some may be cheaper online.
