An accidental gunshot occurred at STLCC – Florissant Valley in the Humanities building at 9 a.m. today, according to a tweet from STLCC Alerts.
Director of Public Information and Marketing at STLCC – Florissant Valley Dan Kimack said the only information he knew at the time was what was tweeted.
“The protocol in this situation was that we immediately alerted campus police who conducted a sweep and we did send out the alert which was to notify faculty, students and staff,” Kimack said.
At 11 a.m. Kimack said the campus was not on lockdown.
Later in the afternoon, Kimack said he could not confirm if the person who brought the gun to school was a male or a female or if the accidental discharge occurred inside or outside the Humanities building.
“It has been alleged that the gun was subsequently thrown in the lake,” Kimack said. “Two individuals were brought in for questioning by St. Louis Community College – Florissant Valley police force.”
The lake is located approximately one quarter to one half of a mile away from the Humanities building on the inner road that loops around campus.
Kimack believed the Missouri Highway Patrol Marine Department was looking for the weapon. STLCC- Florissant Valley police are working with both the Ferguson and St. Louis County Police Department.
