The STLCC Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Pam McIntyre as the STLCC-Meramec president during their meeting on Dec. 5, according to a press release.
McIntyre had served as the interim president at Meramec since April, following the resignation of then President George Wasson. Prior to joining the Meramec campus in the spring, McIntyre was the president of STLCC-Wildwood, a position she had held since January 2008.
STLCC Interim Chancellor Dennis Michaelis, Ed. D., addressed the interim status of McIntyre during an open forum with Meramec staff and faculty on Dec. 2.
“The number of interim and acting positions, not only on this campus, but all across STLCC, concerns me. I believe, that as soon as we can get to a point of stability or relative stability, the better off we are,” Michaelis said. “I’ll be very candid with you. I believe it would move us along toward that stability if I was simply to go to the Board and recommend to them that we appoint Pam McIntyre and move her from an interim status and make her a permanent status.”
Michaelis’s stance on McIntyre was met with applause from many in attendance.
McIntyre has been a part of the STLCC staff for 27 years. Before he appointment in Wildwood, McIntyre was the Dean of Continuing Education and Special Projects at Meramec. She also helped direct the planning efforts and eventual opening of the South County Education Center and University Center in 2003.
“Pam is one of our most experienced administrator and she understands not only the needs of the campus, but also the diverse population the campus serves,” Michaelis said in the press release. “Pam has been instrumental literally building facilities from the ground up that have opened doors to educational opportunities for many.”
The board also approved the permanent positions of Janet Walsh as the Dean of Science, Math and Health Division at Meramec and Tony Russo as Chief of Police at Meramec during their Dec. 5 meeting. Both were interims at their respective positions prior.
