Awarded Best Overall 2-Year College Newspaper by Missouri College Media Association

The Montage was recently recognized as the Best Overall 2-Year College Newspaper at the Missouri College Media Association’s annual convention and awards ceremony, held April 14 at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Mo. The Montage received 1st place as the Best Overall Newspaper in the 2-year college division, the Sweepstakes award, a 1st place award for Web Page, a 1st place win for its Summer Survival Guide and 23 additional staff and individual awards.
In addition, The Montage was recognized as national finalists for three Mark of Excellence Awards from the Society of Professional Journalists. Annually, the Society of Professional Journalists presents the Mark of Excellence Awards honoring the best in student journalism. The Montage placed first at the Region 7 conference March 31st in the General News Reporting category in the two-year college division for its series of articles on budget cuts; first in the Sports Writing category for Kurt Oberreither and Spencer Gleason’s article on drug testing for athletes; and was named the Best All-Around Non-Daily student newspaper. Region 7 includes Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska.
The Montage will compete against finalists from 11 other regions. Panels of national judges will select one national first-place winner in each category.
