Subdistrict 3

Interim Board of Trustee Bob Burns was defeated by Joan H. McGivney by a number of 96 votes at the polls Tuesday, April 3. McGivney will represent subdistrict 3 until the general elections next April.

McGivney received 50.35 percent of the vote.

Subdistrict 3 includes Affton, Bayless, Brentwood, Kirkwood, Maplewood, Richmond Heights, Webster Groves and portions of the city of St. Louis.

McGivney served two three-year terms on the Webster Groves School Board and also served on the St. Louis County Special School District Governing Council. She was a substitute teacher at Affton, Bayless and Hancock Place public schools.

The board position was made vacant last October when Joann Ordinachev announced her retirement. Burns was appointed to temporarily fill the seat until a replacement could be elected.

McGivney will serve until April 2013.

Subdistrict 1

Doris A. Graham, Ph.D., will take Margot McNeil’s seat on the board, beating out three other candidates; Graham received 47.94 percent of the vote.

Subdistrict 1 includes the Hazelwood, Ferguson/Florissant, Riverview Gardens, Jennings, Pattonville, Ritenour, University City, Normandy, Clayton and Ladue school districts.

Graham was the assistant principal at Ames visual and Performing Arts Public School in St. Louis for 38 years. She is a part time reading teacher at Harris-Stowe State University.

Also, Graham served on the Ferguson-Florissant School District Board for 23 years.

McNeil retired after representing the subdistrict for six years.

The next Board of Trustee meeting will be held Thursday, April 26 at the STLCC-Forest Park campus.
