The 2015 STLCC Archers baseball season was one for the record books. For the second straight season, the Archers reached the 30-win plateau. And, for the first time since consolidating to districtwide athletics, in 2011, the Archers won the Region XVI Championship.
It was the first Region XVI Title hoisted by the St. Louis community based college since the now defunct Meramec Magic won it nine years ago.
The Archers (34-23) were one win away from advancing to the NJCAA Division I World Series, but fell, 9-6, to the No. 7 nationally ranked Delgado Community College Dolphins, out of New Orleans, La. in the South Central District Tournament finale on May 19.
The Archers defeated the Dolphins, 12-8, the day before, in the double elimination tournament. Both STLCC and Delgado knocked out No. 5 ranked Seminole State College (39-17) with victories. STLCC’s first loss in the tournament came on May 17, also against Delgado.
The 2015 lineup was led by sophomore outfielder Brandon Gutzler, who played in 56 of 57 games with a .423 batting average, 16 homeruns and 72 RBIs. His homerun and RBI total placed him 13th and 14th in the country, respectively.
The Archers hit .330 as team and had a .417 on base percentage.
In Head Coach Scott Goodrich’s two years at the helm, the Archers are 64-43. They were 30-20 last season.
