Archers Basketball Teams Host Fundraiser Game for Cancer Awareness:

Archers Men and Women’s basketball hosted their 7th Annual Cancer Awareness game on Saturday, Feb. 2 at Forest Park. The Lady Archers won 77-53 against North Central Missouri College, and the men’s team scored a victory of 77-70. Throughout the women’s game they hosted silent auctions and raffles. All the proceeds, including tickets and concession stand food sales throughout the night went to Saint Jude’s Hospital. Shelly Ethridge, head coach for the Lady Archers, is the reason that the basketball program hosts the Cancer Awareness games every year. “This game means a lot because my parents passed away from Cancer, and ever since then, we have been doing this cancer awareness game,” Ethridge said, “It is a very special game in honor of [both of them].” Everyone has experienced cancer at some time in their life, Ethridge said, “It means a lot because I don’t think there is a single person on this Earth who hasn’t experienced cancer.” Terry Collins, Men’s Head Basketball Coach said he felt the same way. “My dad died of cancer, so this game is always close to me. ” Hosting events like the Cancer Awareness basketball games and raising money for research. “I think it is a great thing for our program to get involved with causes like this,” said Mike Overman, STLCC athletic director said. “Anything that we can do to help things in the community, and so much credit for this goes to Coach Ethridge.” Saint Louis Community College hosts various events every year to benefit Cancer Awareness and donates all the proceeds, he said. “This is tremendous way for our athletic department to stay involved in great causes like this,” Overman said.
